2019 Toyota Highlander Review

The 2019 Toyota Highlander has arrived on the market, designed for those who like plenty of seating options and a welcoming interior. At Toyota of Des Moines, purchase or lease the Highlander, and take it out on the roads of West Des Moines, Des Moines, and Grimes.
We’re taking a closer look at the Highlander interior in this review, along with this SUV’s performance capabilities and safety features.
Toyota Highlander Performance Specs
The base edition of the 2019 Highlander comes with a 4-cylinder engine, which exerts 185 horsepower. This is perfect for the daily drives around town and any random errands that pop up. However, if you do a lot of highway driving and seek a bit more power, there is an available 3.5-liter V6 engine to enhance your experience. The V6 is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which helps to maximize acceleration and fuel economy at cruising speeds.
The Stop and Start Engine System is also part of the Highlander. When you bring the vehicle to a stop at a light or the car is otherwise idling, the engine will shut off to save fuel. Release the brake to turn the engine back on and get going. If you’re heading out on a weekend adventure, the V6 engine is able to power the Highlander to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Interior Comforts

The first thing you’ll notice about the Toyota Highlander is how much space it has. Depending on the seating setup, there’s room for either seven or eight people, with soft-to-the-touch seats. As you head up the trim levels, you’ll find leather seating is available. And, the available heated leather seats are perfect for a cold winter night or blustery morning.
When the last row of seats are folded, enjoy up to 42.3 cu. ft. of cargo space. The seats can be folded down for a maximum cargo hold of 83.7 cu. ft., and that means you can fit pieces of furniture and even longer items like snowboards and skis. Carrying a lot to your car? Consider the optional power liftgate—just wave your foot in front of the rear bumper and the cargo area will open for convenient loading.
Toyota Safety Features
Where’s your next destination? Regardless of where you’re heading, you’re protected with Toyota safety features. The 2019 Highlander comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™ P, a package of active safety features. There’s the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, which can pick up on pedestrians or other vehicles that may be ahead of the Highlander. You’ll receive a warning if the car detects a possible collision.
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is also part of this package. If the system detects the car is having trouble staying in its lane, it will offer corrective steering inputs.
