The First 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Hits the Streets This Fall
If you love thrills and the Corolla, you are likely looking forward to the 2023 GR Corolla. This new vehicle is arriving this fall and is ready to impress. Learn more about it and then visit Toyota of Des Moines in Grimes, IA, to be one of the first to own the new model.
The Basics
The 2023 GR Corolla gets its inspiration from rally racing. It has been tested to ensure it meets the highest possible standard. That testing was rigorous, being led by professional drivers from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and master driver Akio Toyoda. The result is a sports car precision built at Toyota’s GR Factory in Motomachi.
You can choose from three models for your 2023 GR Corolla. These are the Core grade, the Circuit Edition, and the MORIZO Edition. The Circuit Edition is a launch-year exclusive, while the MORIZO Edition is ultra-limited. Just keep in mind that while the Core Edition is arriving at dealerships this fall, you have to wait until Winter 2023 for the MORIZO Edition and spring 2023 for the Circuit Edition.
Performance
With any vehicle that has “GR” in its name, performance is one of the major priorities. The 2023 GR Corolla has a 1.6-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 295 pound-feet of torque and 300 horsepower. This engine is lightweight, powerful, and compact. The unique triple exhaust system reduces the backpressure, optimizing power delivery. It also features high-strength engine components.
It also uses a GR-FOUR AWD system that features customizable power settings between the front and rear. Just twist the dial or press a button and enter Track mode. Change the torque distribution between the wheels however you want, such as 60-40, 30-70, or 50-50.
The gearbox is an intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). Drivers get a moderately tuned clutch and short throw shifter, a combination that helps you stay engaged while driving. If you want to turn off iMT, you can easily do so by pressing a button. You can also choose from various drive modes, including Custom, Track, Eco, and Sport.
More Detailed Performance Specs
The GR Corolla Core has a 25.2 PSI max boost, as does the Circuit Edition. Meanwhile, the MORIZO Edition has 26.3 PSI. Overall, you can expect it to take about five seconds to go from a stop to 60 mph.
When driving the Core or Circuit Editions of the 2023 GR Corolla, you will notice peak torque at 3,000 to 5,500 rpm and maximum horsepower at 6,500 rpm. The MORIZO Edition had its engine aggressively tuned to adjust the peak torque. As such, this model has peak torque at 3,250 to 4,600 rpm.
Bonus Auto Sports Membership
As a bonus, buying the new 2023 GR Corolla will also give you a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association. This includes a High-Performance Driving Event and expert instruction.
