Dew Tour

What does the nation’s largest skateboarding park, the world’s top 300 skateboarders, and an Olympic Qualifying event have in common? The Dew Tour Des Moines held on May 20-23, 2021!

Just two weeks after opening, Lauridsen Skatepark located in the heart of downtown Des Moines along the Des Moines River hosted the Dew Tour. Over 300 of the world's top skateboarders competed in individual Park and Street events for a chance to win the Dew Tour title. Plus the Dew Tour Des Moines was the only Olympic Qualifying event held on US soil for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The athletes earned points in hopes to secure a spot on their country’s Olympic team.

“To host an Olympic qualifying event is an awesome showcase for both this new facility and the city of Des Moines. Given the circumstances, this isn’t just an event, but a celebration.” said Greg Edwards, President, and CEO of Catch Des Moines.

All competition took place at the newly constructed Lauridsen Skatepark. At 88,000 square feet, this concrete skatepark is now the largest skatepark in the United States. It features a promenade, flow bowl, amoeba pool, snake run, and a skateable art piece entitled WOW.

Besides watching the biggest tricks from the athletes, a must stop for fans was at the festival-style area, The Dew Tour Experience. At the Toyota booth, event goers could explore some Toyota vehicles and pick up some surprises along the way. At the Sienna Hybrid fans could have their face branded on a cookie, pick up skate wax at the Toyota Corolla, and the Toyota Tacoma station featured custom skate T-Tools.

This competition brought the world’s best skateboarders to Des Moines including Team Toyota skateboarder Jordyn Barratt. Toyota of Des Moines was excited for her to explore Des Moines with a Toyota Venza. Barratt also hosted a socially distanced meet-and-greet during the event.

As the official worldwide mobility partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Committees, it was a perfect fit for Toyota to be the Dew Tour’s Official Mobility Partner of the Dew Tour. This meant that the first-ever adaptive skateboard competitions were part of this Dew Tour. Debut adaptive events included men’s park and men’s and women’s Street. By being the Mobility Partner for events like the Dew Tour is just one way that Toyota can live out their mission to bring the freedom of movement to all.
