In this overview we are comparing it to Honda's subcompact crossover option, the 2023 HR-V. Contact Toyota of Des Moines for the latest finance offers on the impressive Corolla Cross!
Performance
If you’re looking for a crossover that keeps you away from the gas station and still provides enough power for your commute around the Des Moines area, the 2023 Corolla Cross is the answer. Its standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine achieves 169-hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque along with an estimated 31/33/32 MPG city/hwy/combined1. The 2023 HR-V has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine but unfortunately you won’t get as much muscle or excitement as the Corolla Cross since the HR-V tops out at 158-hp and 138 lb.-ft. of torque. It will also cost you more stops at the gas station with an estimated 26/32/28 MPG city/hwy/combined2. Both models come standard with FWD and the option to equip AWD. We also want to point out the Corolla Cross has an available hybrid powertrain and there is no hybrid engine available for the HR-V.
Interior Features
Because these two vehicles are such tight competitors many of the interior features are very similar. However the Corolla Cross does offer some advantages that are worthy of pointing out, especially when it comes to maximizing your budget. In the 2023 Corolla Cross you’ll have a standard 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity for access to your favorite apps while driving along I-80 without the need for annoying cords. The HR-V only comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen and wired smartphone connectivity. You will have to upgrade to a significantly more expensive trim or package in order to access wireless connectivity and a larger touchscreen. The Corolla Cross also offers an available 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat but the HR-V only offers an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat as its top option.
Cargo Space
For this final section we’ll see which of these models provides the space and versatility you want for sports equipment, furniture shopping, camping at Walnut Woods State Park, and more. With the rear seat upright the Corolla Cross offers up to 26.5 cubic ft. of cargo space3. If you decide to fold that rear seat flat you’ll have up to 66.8 cubic ft. of maximum storage capacity3. The HR-V puts up an admirable fight but it might force you to leave a few items behind with only 24.4 cubic ft. of cargo space4 behind the rear seat and up to 55.1 cubic ft. of maximum cargo capacity4. Both vehicles do have a 60/40 split-folding feature for the second row in case you want to increase your cargo space and still accommodate passengers in the back. We invite you to come and explore the Corolla Cross in person during any of our sales hours!
