Performance
When it comes to rugged performance, the 2023 RAV4 offers additional options and stronger capability compared to the 2023 CR-V. Powering your adventures around Des Moines in the RAV4 is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that achieves 203-hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The CR-V’s 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine falls short at 190-hp and 179 lb.-ft. of torque. This also leads to the CR-V to provide significantly less options for those who have a trailer, with a 1,500-lb. maximum towing capacity1 compared to the 3,500-lb. maximum towing capacity2 that’s available for the RAV4. Both vehicles have available AWD capability, but with the RAV4 you also have two specific trim levels designed for off-road performance – the TRD Off-Road and the Adventure trims. In the CR-V you will not find any trims designed specifically for harsh terrain.
Exterior Design
If you plan on camping around Iowa or exploring areas such as Colorado and Utah, the 2023 RAV4 has a wider range of comprehensive options vs the 2023 CR-V when it comes to the exterior as well. The base ground clearance of the Toyota RAV4 is 8.4-inches and you have an additional two inches of ground clearance on select trim levels. This helps protect the engine and makes it easier to travel off-road. In the CR-V you’ll only have 8.2-inches of maximum ground clearance. In the RAV4 you have available exterior features such as skid plates, overfenders, Falken® WILDPEAK A/T trail tires, and two-tone body color combinations. The exterior appearance and functionality of the CR-V is more suited to highway or city driving and does not offer as many variations among trim levels, including no dual-tone exterior color combinations.
Interior
Whether you are commuting to work or picking up friends for a day at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens, it’s important to have a cabin with technology and comfort. In the 2023 RAV4 you’ll have access to more modern connectivity features, including a standard 8-inch touchscreen compared to the CR-V’s standard 7-inch touchscreen and an available 10.5-inch touchscreen that also beats out the CR-V’s best option of an available 9-inch touchscreen display. Both vehicles do feature standard Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® smartphone connectivity3, but only the RAV4 offers wireless connection as standard – in the CR-V you will have to use a charging cord unless you opt for the available touchscreen package. When summer heat is at its peak you’ll be glad to have the RAV4’s available ventilated front seat feature that comes with the heated seat package. Unfortunately for CR-V drivers, ventilated seats are not an available option. And finally, the RAV4 features Toyota’s signature SofTex®-trimmed upholstery on many trim levels, which is uniquely designed to provide premium comfort while also repelling stains and odors.

I finally called at 4:30 pm car still not looked at was told next appointment opening was next Monday!? So I have no car and I needed to get to work and expecting a grandbaby any day! Thursday I finally get a call with what needs to be done which was a lot for a 2004 car. Had Friday off so I was planning to figure things out the next day? No one told me it was drivable (which it was) so I'm thinking probably need to get a new car?? I had to work till 9 pm on Thursday (had to find a ride) and grandbaby on the way (had to find a ride to the hospital) spent all night at the hospital and all day Friday. Called Toyota to plead for a loaner so I could get to work and be mobile the answer was "no" if you are trying to sell cars that is not the way to do it! So I rented a car because I needed to get to work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday 300 dollars and I owe Toyota 500 for just looking at the car! I had Tuesday off so I called Monday to see what needed to be fixed to make it drivable so I could get it home or to another dealership! That's when they told me it was drivable!?!? Seriously!! That would of been nice to know 4 days ago!! Only help I got was a ride to Toyota to pay my bill! I told them, when paying my bill, that it would of been nice to know my car was drivable because I rented a car! No "I'm sorry" nothing! ”
