History of the Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry was first introduced back in 1982. Its name comes from a Japanese word that means “crown” and it was also called the Vista, Scepter, and Aurion throughout the years in different countries. It has mainly been produced as the midsize four-door sedan that we see today, but it also had brief releases as a 5-door station wagon, a 2-door coupe, and a 2-door convertible. Following Toyota’s continued focus on hybrid engineering and the rising popularity of electrified vehicles, the Camry Hybrid was released in 2007. As of 2023 the Toyota Camry is available as a hybrid or traditional gas engine sedan.
Awards and Accomplishments
If you feel like you see a lot of Camry models on the road in Des Moines and around the country, you are not wrong. They have been either at the top or nearly at the top of the best-selling cars in America for over 20 years. In 2022 they were the only car that ranked in the top 10 most sold vehicles in America. This shows their ability to win over customers despite the increasing dominance of crossovers and pickup trucks. The Camry also is a frequent winner of accolades* such as Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value in Its Class, U.S. News & World Report Best Midsize Car for the Money, and IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
What Makes the Camry Stand Out?
There are many factors that have contributed to the impressive legacy and continued popularity of the Camry. Durability and dependability is one of those factors. Like many other Toyota models, the Camry has proven to last well beyond the 100,000-mile mark with minimal maintenance repairs needed. This gives owners a strong return on their investment and allows them to sell the vehicle easily if needed. Another factor is the classic exterior and well-appointed interior. Drivers know that they will be able to get premium comfort features without draining their budget and that their vehicle won’t look outdated in a year or two. The Camry is also consistently equipped with the latest technology features when it comes to safety. We encourage you to come and see for yourself with a visit to our dealership where we have a great selection of new and pre-owned Camry models!
