Toyota Camry Maintenance Schedule

At Toyota of Des Moines, we want to make sure your Toyota Camry continues to provide peak performance long after you drive off the lot. That’s why we put together this Toyota Camry maintenance schedule.

These guidelines come straight from your car’s manufacturer. Follow them to help your new Camry run well past the 100,000-mile mark near West Des Moines, Des Moines, and Grimes.

When to Get Maintenance

The Toyota Camry follows 6-month/5,000-mile maintenance intervals. You should follow whichever interval comes first based on your driving habits. In other words:

  • If it takes fewer than six months to drive 5,000 miles, you should follow the “every 5,000 miles” interval.
  • If it takes you closer to a year or more to drive 5,000 miles, you should follow the “every six months” interval.

There are also some instances where you’ll want additional services at each maintenance appointment. This is true if most of your driving falls under special operating conditions, as these result in more wear and tear on your vehicle. Special operating conditions include:

  • Driving on dirt roads or through dusty areas
  • Using your car to carry heavy items
  • Repeated trips of fewer than five miles in below-freezing temperatures
  • Extensive idling, such as with a delivery car

If these conditions describe your driving habits, consult your owner’s manual or local service technician for more information.

Every 6 Months/5,000 Miles

Every time you bring your Camry in for routine maintenance, you’ll want to get its tires rotated. Also inspect the following:

  • Fluid levels, adjusting if needed
  • Wiper blades
  • Brake linings/drums
  • Brake pads/discs

Every 12 Months/10,000 Miles

In addition to a repeat of the previous checkup, this interval requires a few small replacements to keep everything running smoothly, such as:

Every 18 Months/15,000 Miles

This is more of an in-depth inspection interval. It should include inspections of the following:

  • Ball joints and dust covers
  • Brake lines and hoses
  • Drive shaft boots
  • Engine coolant
  • Exhaust pipes and mountings
  • Radiator and condenser
  • Steering gear, linkage, and boots

Every 36 Months/30,000 Miles

In addition to the checklist mentioned above, these inspections are also recommended at this interval:

  • Automatic transmission oil cooler hoses and connections
  • Automatic transmission for signs of leakage
  • Fuel lines and connections
  • Fuel tank band, vapor vent system hoses, and cap gasket

This is also when you’ll want to replace the engine air filter in your Camry.

72 Months/60,000 Miles and Beyond

Again, don’t forget to keep repeating the above services at regular intervals. Once you hit the 72-month/60,000-mile mark, you’ll want to start inspecting the drive belts as well. Check them again every 18 months/15,000 miles after.

This milestone is also when you’ll want to replace your spark plugs if your Camry has the 3.5L V6 engine under the hood (also called the 2GR-FKS). This engine also requires you to replace the vacuum pump for the brake booster at the 144-month/120,000-mile mark.

If your Camry is equipped with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine (A25A-FKS), you can wait until this 144-month/120,000-mile mark to replace your spark plugs. Drivers with this engine should also inspect their vacuum pump for the brake booster at this time, replacing if necessary.

Regardless of which engine you have, you’ll want to replace the coolant at 120 months/100,000 miles.
